Israel-Hamas war live: Gaza’s Indonesian Hospital surrounded by tanks

Indonesia condemns attack on hospital in Gaza

  • Israeli tanks surround Indonesian Hospital in Gaza where at least 12 people killed following direct Israeli strikes since the morning.
  • Gaza’s health ministry director dismissed Israel’s claim that it had found a Hamas tunnel at the al-Shifa Hospital, describing it as a “pure lie”.

Israeli attacks on Indonesian Hospital have now been condemned by Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi who said that it was “clear violation of international humanitarian laws”.

“All countries, especially those that have close relations with Israel, must use all their influence and capabilities to urge Israel to stop its atrocities,” Retno added.

At least 12 people have been killed in the attacks and Israeli tanks have surrounded the hospital.

No reaction from the international community on hospital attack

Ibrahim Fraihat, associate professor at the Doha Institute, tells Al Jazeera that there are two patterns emerging from Israel’s attacks on civilian facilities, the latest being Indonesian Hospital.

“We started with the al-Ahli Baptist Hospital. It was bombed, there was an outcry over this and Israel denied it. But then there was another attack and received with [no] reaction from the international community because they got used to it. Now, Israel is bombing hospitals and is not even giving an explanation,” he said.

Fraihat added that the second pattern that aligns with this are the schools in Gaza.

“The first school was also received with international condemnation, but then yesterday, Al Fakhoura school…even Israel is not claiming that there are Hamas fighters hiding there, bombed [and] killed 200 people and no explanation whatsoever.”

Bodies of those killed by Israel still lying outside Indonesian Hospital

We can now bring you some more updates on what’s happening at the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza.

Munner al-Bursh, general manager of the Health Ministry in Gaza, has told Al Jazeera that:

  • Israeli forces are continuing to attack the hospital.
  • Israeli artillery started in the middle of the night and targeted the surgical department, wounding the doctors working there and killing 12 civilians who were taking refuge.
  • Israeli forces then targeted people who were leaving the hospital by shooting them near the hospital. Their bodies are still lying on the ground, and nobody has been able to bury them.
  • The al-Kuwait UN school was burned down by the Israeli forces. People were taking refuge there, and we don’t have any information on the death toll there.
  • In addition to around 700 patients and 5,000 refugees before the attack, there were 10,000 people in the shelter centres around the hospital.
  • We are using a small power generator that runs on vegetable oil, manufactured by some creative individuals who sacrificed some of their food supply to run the generator.
